There are always plenty of things to do in the Poconos!
Outdoor Activities and Sports You'll always find something fun to do in the beautiful Pocono mountains. There's whitewater rafting, canoeing and tubing on the Delaware River. There are several challenging golf courses designed by golf’s notables such as Robert Trent Jones, Geoffrey Cornish, and A.W. Tillinghast. And, for the less avid golfer, there are many friendly 9-hole courses. Snow skiing and snowboarding are winter favorites in the Poconos, on over 146 slopes and trails including Camelback and Shawnee. Or, you can choose to go ice skating on Lake Wallenpaupack. In the summer, familes will enjoy the waterslides and pools at Camelbeach. During the rest of the year, the Pocono Mountains and area lakes offer great fishing, hunting, hiking. And, NASCAR fans enjoy the thrill of a race at the Pocono Raceway. There are a number of beautiful public parks, including Mountainview Park in Tannersville, and Dansbury Park in East Stroudsburg. Or drive up the mountain to Big Pocono State Park in Tannersville and you can walk on trails and observe the Poconos from above it all. It's a view not to be missed! You may also picnic in the designated areas along the trails. The Nature Conservancy is a leading conservation organization dedicated to protecting ecologically important lands and waters. Its Long Pond Nature Preserve is an excellent way to experience all the beauty the Poconos have to offer. It is a study in contrasts, with forested valleys nestled between rugged ridges with spectacular vistas. There is a rich diversity of plants and animals flourishing in the valleys among wetlands and bogs. In the spring the area is alive with rhodora (wild azaleas), and The Preserve has been named one of Audubon’s Important Bird Areas. Standing in stark contrast to the surrounding Pocono Mountains landscape, the Tannersville Cranberry Bog presents a peek of colder times thousands of years ago, when a large glacier lake occupied the area, which today is nothing more than thick, soupy peat moss and other vegetation. Some of the most beautiful orchids, which include rose pogonia and the state-endangered heart leaved twayblade, are favorites of nature lovers and photographers who visit each year. Arts & Entertainment Indoor activities in the Pocono area include museums like the Antoine Dutot Museum & Gallery in Delaware Water Gap, and the Shawnee Gallery in Shawnee Village, or plays and concerts at venues like the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg. In neighboring Carbon County, you can enjoy concerts, cultural events, theater, dance and film at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. Nighttime hotspots include Shenanigans in Lake Harmony, The Tannersville Inn in Tannersville, and Shiro in Scotrun. If you’re feeling lucky, the Mount Airy Casino Resort in Paradise Township offers slot machines, poker, roulette, and other games of chance. Or you can make a wager on some harness racing at the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Dining Restaurants in the Poconos offer a variety of options. For example, you'll find gourmet dining at the Cherry Valley Bistro in Stroudsburg. There are a number of ethnic restaurants such as the Don Quixote Restaurant in Pocono Manor, which offers authentic cuisine from the heart of Spain. Or check out the newest hot spot in Stroudsburg, Liquid, a fabulous martini bar that serves tapas along with delicious eye appealing meals. You'll also find a variety of delis and fast food restaurants. There's something here to accommodate anyone’s palate or pleasure.
